about

"Algorithmic social media obliterates all narratives, inspiring tiny sparks of emotion in us that falter and dissipate once every few seconds. Throughout this experience, our minds face the impossible task of stitching together a coherent stream of consciousness, forming an internal monologue that begs us for our attention against the undeniable allure of deadly car crash footage and adorable capybara videos.

Returning to the internet scene with yet another experimental electronic game-changer, Bagel Fanclub’s new album Encore County Ground continues the duo’s mission to fuse chiptune with much grittier and noisier electronic sounds. However, where the previous record wore its vintage video game soundtrack influences on its sleeve, Encore County Ground pushes these more melodic tendencies even further into abstract subtlety. After establishing a simple, iconic theme with chiptune tones, Bagel Fanclub moves through various modes of deconstruction, sculpting their noise, techno, industrial, glitch, dub, footwork, and jungle sounds around these digestible foundations.

Like an ailing subconscious screaming out for attention amidst a deluge of digital content slop, this record’s catchy melodic themes bob to the surface on rare and memorable occasions. Our internal monologue similarly plays an underappreciated role of organizing the completely ridiculous data we consume, running parallel to these simple melodic and rhythmic themes that mold the chaos on the tracks they inhabit. As Bagel Fanclub inches closer to complete digital abstraction, they offer you a vision of your future, of chaotic noise without a melodic motif, forcing you to choose whether to embrace your inner monologue before its anguished screams call out for the last time."
